Day in the Life: China

Take a peek inside the daily life of one WorldTeach China volunteer.

Are you interested in teaching abroad in China through WorldTeach? We still have room in our year-long program China program! Click here for more information and to apply.

WorldTeach China gives volunteers the opportunity to teach English abroad to middle and high schools around Hunan province. The 2011 program will be the seventh year we have worked with the Hunan Department of Education to bring native English speakers to teach ESL in schools throughout the province. Volunteers also engage in extracurricular activities. Most lead an English club or other optional classes where they have more freedom to teach about subjects they or their students find interesting, such as English songs and dances. Many volunteers often start a drama club, coach a casual football group, start an English library, or run some other activity to engage their students.

The first semester runs from early September to late January or early February. Volunteers then get a break for Chinese New Year, usually 5 or 6 weeks. Volunteers often take this time to travel South East Asia, visit the jaw dropping ice festival in Harbin, or just relax. The second semester starts right after and continues on until early June.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until May 1, 2012 so you still have time to get yours submitted for an August 2012 departure! And don't forget that this program is subsidized by the Department of Education. Click here for more information at to apply!
