WorldTeach is proud to announce that our first volunteer program to India will depart this August! The program, which was just finalized this past May, is incredibly unique. WorldTeach will partner with Rising Star Outreach, an American-based NGO that works with leprosy-affected families by supporting a boarding school for their children, bringing medical care to the leprosy colonies, and assisting the people through micro-lending. WorldTeach volunteers will work primarily in the Tamil Nadu region of India, providing English instruction in the school and helping support outreach in computer skills for children in the colonies who are unable to attend the school.
In working with Rising Star Outreach, volunteers are provided with a wide array of service opportunities. Serving in Tamil Nadu is not only ideal for volunteers with liberal arts backgrounds hoping to teach underprivileged students, but also ideal for those entering medical fields. Volunteers will quickly come to realize the effects of Leprosy on these Indian communities. In fact, volunteers who are interested may help with medical missions to the nearby leprosy afflicted colonies.
There are still two positions open for this year's 11 month trip to India set to depart in August. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. Applicants need only submit their resume and cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org, and then attend a scheduled interview following review of your application. A reminder that the volunteer commitment for India will total $4,990. This includes pre-departure information and preparation, round-trip international airfare, health insurance, in-country orientation, transportation to your site, meals and housing during orientation and throughout your teaching service, and 24-hour field support.Once volunteers begin teaching, they will be provided with a $150 monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses.
